defacing a nazi painting

in the course of restauring a university building in graz, two large wall paintings of the nazi era had been discovered. the political discussion that followed had two opposing viewpoints. 1: to confess to history and therefore either demolish the painting or hide it by painting it over again. 2: to confess to history and therefore renovate the painting to let the public become aware of history. ignoring nr.1 as well as nr.2. the artist covered both paintings with transparent glass , writing a sand jetted critical text all over it. the text made parts of the paintings invisible. text and painting became ambivalent. reading the text was disturbed by the painting, reading the painting was interrupted by the text.
